What it costs, by time of day
Almost nobody gets locked out mid-morning. That is why I give you all three prices up front, not just the lowest one. What counts is the time I reach your door, not the time you call. Prices for openings in Tarragona city, excluding VAT.

No damage whenever it is possible
My first choice is always a non-destructive technique: getting you back in without ruining the door, the lock or the cylinder. On an ordinary door that has latched shut this usually works. Every case still has to be judged on its own.
Opening gets harder when:
- The door is locked with one or more turns of the key.
- A key is left in the lock on the inside.
- The cylinder is jammed or faulty.
- The key has snapped inside the lock.
- The lock was already damaged.
- It is a reinforced or armoured door with security systems.
- Someone has tried to force it before I arrive.
- There is an internal fault in a multipoint lock.
When a clean opening is not possible, I explain that before starting. If a cylinder has to be replaced or a lock repaired, you will know why and what it costs first. I never change a part without telling you and without your permission.
The doors and locks I open
A closed door is not always the same problem. Two locks that look identical from the outside can need different techniques depending on the mechanism, its condition and the security fitted to it. These are the cases I see every day:
Door latched shut
The most common one: you step out for a moment, a draught pulls the door shut, or the keys stay inside. With no turns of the key there is more room to open it without damage.
Door locked with the key
Once one or more turns have been given, the locking system is engaged and the job is different. I will ask about the door, the lock and the cylinder so I can judge it and give you the price before setting off.
Key left in on the inside
A key left in from the inside can block opening from outside, especially if the cylinder has no double clutch. Before doing anything I check which system you have.
Lost or stolen keys
As well as opening the door, it is usually worth changing the cylinder so the missing keys stop working. I explain the options and you decide.
Key snapped inside the lock
Do not keep forcing it or push improvised tools in: the broken piece can move further inside or damage the mechanism. I take the fragment out and then check that everything works.
Jammed lock or cylinder
It can be a worn cylinder, a bent key, poor alignment, dirt inside, or a fault. Here getting in is not enough: the cause has to be found so it does not happen again.
Reinforced and armoured doors
I work on ordinary, reinforced and armoured doors. The method and the price depend on the security system, the cylinder, the protective escutcheon and how the door was closed.

Locked out: what to do before you call
Stay calm and first check whether there is another way in you are allowed to use, or whether a relative has a spare set of keys.
Do not force the key, hit the lock, or push screwdrivers, cards or other objects into it. Handling it the wrong way damages the mechanism and turns a simple opening into a more expensive repair.

Before opening, I check that you may go in
For the safety of the building, before an opening I have to check that you are the owner, the resident, or someone authorised.
An ID card, a tenancy agreement, confirmation from the owner, or any other reasonable proof will do. If the paperwork is inside the property, we check it once the door is open.
Does your insurance cover the opening?
Some home insurance policies include locksmith assistance, but what is covered and on what terms depends on each company and each contract.
I give you a detailed invoice for the job so you can claim the money back from your insurer. If the situation allows it, call your company first and ask what they cover.
I cannot guarantee that your insurance will pay: that decision belongs to the insurer and to the terms of your policy.
